Privacy policy
How we look after your information
What personal information we collect when you book with us, visit our yards or use our website, why, who sees it, how long we keep it, and your rights.
We never sell your information, and we never see or keep your card number. We collect only what we need to deliver your skip, take your waste, keep the records the law requires and answer your questions.
Who we are
Taurus Waste Recycling Ltd (company number 01506942, VAT GB 800 7304 75), Taurus House, Lynchford Lane, Farnborough, Hampshire GU14 6JB. We trade as Taurus Waste Recycling in Farnborough and as Zebra Waste Disposal Services in Fareham, and run tauruswaste.com and zebrawaste.com. We are the controller of the information in this policy.
Our Data Protection Lead is Daniel Montague: dan@taurus-waste.com.

Our websites
Booking and payment. Bookings are made through our booking system, Checkfront. Your details go to Checkfront to make the booking, and card payments are taken on Checkfront's secure payment page. We never see your card number. When a booking is made, Checkfront tells our website only the day, the skip size, the first half of the postcode, the value and any offer code.
A booking in progress. When you go to pay, your own browser keeps a note of the booking reference, dates, size, email and postcode for up to 24 hours, so you are not asked to book the same skip twice. It stays on your device and is not sent to us. "Start a new booking" removes it.
The contact form and chat. Your message, and any name, phone number and email you give, are kept on our own server and deleted 90 days after the last message. They may also be emailed to the yard's office.
Visit statistics. We count visits without cookies and without keeping your internet address. Our cookie policy explains exactly what is measured and what your browser keeps.
Who we share it with
Only with companies that work for us, and only what each needs. Each works under a written contract with us:
| Company | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Checkfront | Online bookings and card payments |
| DigitalOcean | Hosts our websites and office system |
| IONOS and Google | Our email |
| openrouteservice | Route planning: delivery and collection addresses only, no names |
| Weighsoft | Our weighbridge system: weighbridge tickets |
| Our bin lift and vehicle system suppliers | Bin lift and vehicle records |
| Our accountants | Our accounts |
We also share information when the law requires it: with Defra (Digital Waste Tracking), the Environment Agency, local authorities, HMRC, the police or the courts. We may share it with our insurers, legal advisers or debt recovery agents for a claim or an unpaid account. If our business, or part of it, is sold, the buyer may use your information only for the same purposes.
Where it is kept
Our website server is in London, and our other systems are in the UK or the European Economic Area wherever we can choose. Some of our providers are based in Canada or the United States. We use them only where the transfer is protected by UK adequacy regulations, the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement. Ask us which applies to a particular provider.
How long we keep it
| Record | How long |
|---|---|
| Waste transfer notes | 2 years from the transfer (the legal minimum) |
| Hazardous waste consignment notes | At least 3 years |
| Invoices, payments and accounts | 6 years after the end of the financial year |
| Your account, bookings and emails | 6 years after your last job |
| Contact form messages and chats | 90 days after the last message |
| Booking feedback | 2 years |
| Bin lift and vehicle records | 2 years |
| CCTV images | 30 days, unless needed for an incident |
| Marketing opt-outs | Kept, so we never contact you again |
If a claim, investigation or regulator's request is under way, the related records are kept until it ends.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, and to correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, or give it to you in a form you can take elsewhere. You can object to how we use it, and stop marketing at any time. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it. We make no decisions about you by computer alone.
Email dan@taurus-waste.com, write to us at the address above, or tell any of our staff. It is free, and we reply within one month. We may ask for proof of who you are first. Some rights do not apply to records we must keep by law, such as waste notes and invoices; if we can't do what you ask, we'll tell you why.
Marketing
We send marketing emails or texts only if you have agreed, or if you are a customer and did not opt out when you booked. Every message has a simple way to opt out. We never buy marketing lists or pass your details to anyone else for their marketing. Booking confirmations and reminders are not marketing.
Questions and complaints
Please contact Daniel Montague, our Data Protection Lead, at dan@taurus-waste.com or at the address above. We acknowledge a complaint within 30 days. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113.
